deprecated(...)
deprecated stops execution of the current expression, prints
a message indicated that the function is deprecated, and then
returns to the top level prompt.
When an R image is restored and references are found to non-existant internal functions, the references are replaced by referenced to deprecated. This functionality exists to ensure that old R images can be restored under new versions of R.
